It isn’t just about the count…

Welcome to South Africa. No we didn’t see all of the big five animals listed by big game hunters: lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, buffalo. We missed the lion and leopard but we have seen those two in Tanzania. Here we got some photos of some of the herd animals and birds.

Dennis and I both thought that we had an extremely knowledgeable guide. He not only knew the names and habits of the animals, he knew their names in Latin and truly seemed to love his job. Dennis’s only disappointment was that he couldn’t ask lots of personal questions. So Dave was spared.

As for birds:

And next we’re off to Eswatini (Swaziland).

A final word from Dennis:

As Cindy related Dave was an encyclopedia of information. He’s been guiding for about 15 years. When he spotted animal, anything as small aa a lizard crossing our path to a male elephant in musk (could you smell him?) Dave had all the info. Chameleon? “He crosses slowly and impersonates a leaf blowing in the wind.” Wanna know how big an elephant’s tally-wacker is? Yep, Dave knows, around 60 pounds or more. He looked at me with a quizzical smile. I averted his gave and looked sheepish.  Oh yea, the safari? Really loved it and Dave was the highlight. 👍
