Finding Our Way Around Lagos

On our second full day in Lagos (Lah-go-sh) we were able to find our way to the Tourist Information Office and actually discover where we were living and where we needed to go to find the historic district. Pat found Frank’s recommendation for a salon.  We sat outside and had, wait for it...a glass of wine.  When she came out it was a Tah-da moment.

On our third full day in Lagos we found a shorter way from our apartment to the historic district and the Marina.  The third day (Hurray!) did not require us bothering any local with, “how do we get to...”

The weather is gorgeous and so today we decided to take a boat tour of the grotto areas around Lagos.  So many beaches—ones that are romantic, ones that require many stairs to the beach (and back up), ones that are for the old, the young, and the naked.  So many beaches. Which ones will WE visit? You may not want to stay tuned to find out.

The water changes from deep blue to an aqua to brilliant turquoise green.  The rock carved out of the Atlantic are covered with fossils, birds, and scrubby vegetation with colors ranging from ochre to rust in beautiful bands of color. The sky overhead is a gorgeous blue and we are having a beautiful day.

The Gospel According to Dennis:
Today, February 4th was a nice relaxing kinda day. After a light breakfast of cold cuts, cheese,  left over chicken and coffee, we headed into the old walled city of Lagos. But this time we took a different route. Map in hand, we set off.  Beyond all expectations, we actually found our way into town without having to ask anyone where we were or how to get where we were going and we got there quicker than before.

After a walk down the ocean side boulevard, we picked up tickets for a boat ride grotto tour. It was beautiful! It lasted about 1 and a half hours and the day was bright, about 73℉ And sunny, Evo our guide filled us in on the history of the city dating back to the Greeks, Romans, and Moors. He motored us into the many caves, beaches, and grottos.

After boating, we stopped for a light lunch, a glass of wine (of course) and then decided to head back to our casa to read, relax, and chill.  I took a walk around our neighborhood to check out some restaurants, neighborhood gardens and local retailers.  Not exciting but relaxing and mellowing. Finished the day at a restaurant about a block away.  Rather than eating fish tonight, enjoyed lamb chops with rice, 4 chops, French fries, and a liter of wine to share.  Cindy had fish.  The bill for all of it was 28 bucks! My kind of place and the food was outstanding.

Tomorrow a guided tour of the most westerly part of Portugal.  Stay tuned...
